How One Direction fans helped save a suicidal teen

by sixteen.com
Taylor Salvadore is a “normal” teen by definition; however, she has a disorder called misphonia, a neurological “glitch” that can cause everyday sounds to cause bursts of outrage and suicidal tendencies. This has led her to have a weak social life, consequently causing even more suicidal thoughts. She didn’t have that many friends, and her social media life was also hurting.

The only thing that seems to soothe her disorder is listening to her favorite band One Direction.
However, one night after a series of unfortunate events for Taylor, including learning that she would not be able to attend the next One Direction concert in her area, she began tweeting that she was in the process of killing herself. Taylor said she finally got her hands on some kind of pills and was finishing the entire bottle. Even though no one seemed to care about Taylor on Twitter before, now that this suicidal event happened, her fellow One Direction fans stepped in to help save her life.

Fans from all around the country began tweeting Taylor positive things to help boost her moral, and friends and people that knew Taylors contact information informed her siblings and parents of the fiasco, which probably saved her life.

Taylor was rushed to the hospital by her frantic parents to have her stomach pumped. Some people were skeptical and blamed Taylor of being an attention seeker and faking this whole thing. Taylor replied by posting pictures of the hospital and her in the hospital bed to prove that she wasn’t lying and she was genuinely in need of social and mental help.

After this happened, all of twitter, not just One Direction fans, went viral online posting #prayfortaylor everywhere. This support really helped Taylor, as well as other suicidal teens around the country, realize that they WILL be missed if they carry out their suicidal thoughts.
This situation, however, is a catch 22. Though the fans are doing a great justice for Taylor by creating awareness of the reality and devastation of suicide, they are also simultaneously elevating suicidal popularity.

After Taylor’s real incident, there were a few troubled teens that saw how much attention and love Taylor got as a response to her ordeal. These teens were just as lost and lonely, so they, independently, staged a Twitter suicide attempt similar to Taylor’s, but they weren’t legitimate.
Moral of the story, suicide OBVIOUSLY is not the answer to your problems.  Every single person in this world has problems and issues that at some points in their life seem so overwhelming that life seems worthless. However, time heals all wounds, and things do get better and improve with effort; that is a fact. Suicide will not solve your problems; it will only make them worse. You WILL be missed. Losing a daughter or a son is devastating to mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings, friends, schoolmates, coworkers, and everyone in between; the loss of YOU will lead to hardship and grief of uncountable people. Stay alive <3.
