“Gangnam Style” becomes most watched video on YouTube

PSY, the South Korean rapper, has taken the world by storm with his one hit wonder “Gangnam Style”. As of last Saturday, November 24th 2012, his music video became the most watched video of all time on YouTube.
The long standing 1st place holder of this most watched video position before “Gangnam Style” was Justin Bieber’s music video for his hit song “Baby”. The shocking part about all of this is that Justin Bieber’s “Baby” video was put on YouTube in February of 2010 and has accumulated 803 Million views over that two and a half year span. However, “Gangnam Style” has been on YouTube only five months since July of 2012, and has already accumulated 805 views. This type of viral video is unprecedented in the YouTube and the Internet world.
The main attraction of this “Gangnam Style” video is the extremely catchy beat to the song, as well as the infamous dance moves. The signature dance move of the South Korean rapper mimics riding a horse and lassoing a rope.
This dance move has also gone viral along with the video. Teens and young adults all over the world can be found imitating this dance move, reenacting this video, and singing the song. The catch phrase of “Gangnam Style” is also now becoming a slang word for describing “partying hard”.
In addition, PSY was the most replicated person this year for Halloween 2012. More people bought costumes of his signature suit and dressed up as this Korean rapper than any other person, celebrity, athlete etc.
This type of viral activity will sure give PSY his 15 minutes of fame!
